Spectacular original plate-signed limited edition pochoir lithograph of Pablo Picasso's xxxx work "Les Miserables". This piece is #76 of the limited edition run of 200 lithographs created in xxxx by the outstanding art preservation and recreation firm Silvana Editoriale in Milan, Italy. This series was personally overseen and plate-signed by Picasso himself. The pochoir method of printing lithographs is the oldest method used to accurately reproduce multicolor prints, and it creates an outstanding impression, with fine detailing and rich coloring.
"Les Miserables" originated in Picasso's Blue Period, which took place between xxxx and xxxx. Nearly all of the pieces created in this timeframe utilize primarily blue and green tones, and focus on the degenerate, disenfranchised, and disadvantaged. "Les Miserables" is an excellent example of Blue Period work; it features a somber tone, stark background, and two figures with stooped heads. It brilliantly captures the depression and despair that Picasso was enduring during this time, as he struggled to cope with the death of his close friend Carlos Casagemas.
This lithograph is in mint condition, measures 11 3/4" by 9 3/4", and is framed and matted to museum standards. The coloration is still incredibly rich, and is free of any signs of solarization or toning. As it is fully matted and framed, it is impossible to determine the condition of the edges of the print, but it is safe to assume that their condition should be excellent based on the condition of the viewable portions of the lithograph. It is behind glass to prevent any wear and tear. The gilt wood frame is in flawless condition, and measures 26 1/4" by 22 1/2". Includes full documentation from Westminster Fine Arts, Inc. documenting the identity, origins, and provenance of this valuable piece.
