Manager, Power Trading Real Time Job ID 100####### Req Name 100####### Location Chattanooga, TN Type Experienced/Professional Shift Weekdays Salary Competitive Total openings 1 Closing Date Feb 28, xxxx Description POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for managing the development and implementation of trading strategies for hourly, intraday, and long term sales markets to ensure that power is acquired and managed to optimize economics, deliverability, and reliability. This position develops, maintains, and oversees the trader training program and manages all personnel actions/issues to ensure a qualified, competent trading staff. Leads special projects and develops plans/schedules and implementation activities to support and enhance current trading functions and prepare for future trading environments. Possesses a thorough understanding of TVA system capabilities, power transmission requirements, control and capture systems, financial and commodity trading, forecast and decision analysis tools, OASIS and tagging systems, and contract portfolio and market pricing to maximize TVA''s overall generation and market portfolio. Manages relationships and disputes with internal and external organizations/ markets throughout the United States. JOB DIMENSIONS: Supervisory Responsibility - 9 Power Traders (including Senior Power Traders); 1 intern. Budget Responsibility - up to $250M annually. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Supervises the development, implementation, and management of hourly, intraday, and long-term sales trading strategies (including the uncertainties of load, generation, transmission, and market dynamics) to optimize system resources and market economics. Oversees trading activities to ensure system needs are met. Structures long-term off-system sales opportunities. 2. Manages Power Traders, ensuring they are knowledgeable of power systems and markets and are trained on tools, systems, and the development of trading strategies. Oversees development, maintenance, and enhancement of the trader training program, SPPs, and emergency response plans. Responsible for ensuring staff understanding of and adherence to SPPs, and safety/emergency and compliance requirements (i.e. NERC Reliability Standards and Sarbox Control activity). 3. Manages $100-250 million annually in purchases and sales. Works with TVA Finance to ensure that all information required for accurate, timely billing of purchases and sales is maintained. 4. Manages relationships and disputes with internal and external individuals and organizations to ensure communication and mutual understanding of rules, requirements, and policies, and resolution of differences and discrepancies. 5. Represents Merchant arm of TVA in organized RTO markets. Leads/participates on projects and performs other functions as required to meet organizational goals and objectives. 6. Responsible for understanding and utilizing over-the-counter commodity trading, including the use of power brokers and financial electricity products. 7. Reviews records of the trading process, including decision criteria, to ensure optimal decisions are made and executed. Works with Energy Trading strategist to evaluate decisions and conduct post operational analyses to drive continuous improvement. MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY FACTORS: Education - B.S. or B.A. degree in engineering, business administration/finance, or related field. An MBA is preferred. Experience - At least ten years or progressive experience in competitive power markets, and/or power system operations. Demonstrated managerial competencies such as leadership, communication, customer service, planning, organizing, analysis, judgment, flexibility, interpersonal relations, and negotiation skills. Broad knowledge of TVA organizations and their relationships, and the complexity of TVA functions as a utility, government, and regulatory controlled agency. Demonstrated ability to interpret broad policy matters. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Must be able to create, evaluate, and structure the pricing and terms for the sale, purchase or brokering and financial instruments.
